Waking up for Christmas hope I'm not too late hope there's still time to celebrate presents have been opened underneath the tree did they leave any one for me? Then - all is quiet so you hoof to the ball but there's dress code required you don't meet it at all so you feel... This Christmas Time is Too Real This Christmas Time is Too Real I hear voices singing pretty good harmony sounds like it's about two turtle doves someone says they're bringing home a Christmas tree my hands go numb in fingerless gloves then - Snowball fight! you throw your curveball but you are disqualified you can't play anymore so you feel... This Christmas Time is Too Real This Christmas Time is Too Real so they say it's Christmas Oh so merrily as they pass the hors' d'voures right by me couldn't help but notice couldn't help but see there might be some leftovers for me... In the yule tide, you will try your luck sneaking one miniscule bite, it gets stuck to your hand so you feel... This Christmas Time is Too Real This Christmas Time is Too Real Merry Christmas, baby hope it treats you nice cozy where the snow falls, safe from the cold and ice Merry Christmas, baby hope it treats you nice cozy where the snow falls, safe from the cold and ice Merry Christmas, baby hope it treats you nice cozy where the snow falls, safe from the cold and ice ...

I was faking Christmas I was freaking out I was forgetting you there were stampeding masses there were bleeding mouths & there were a quiet few ... deep in the heart of Christmas there is no selling out deep in the heart of Christmas you could be gentile or jew deep in the heart of Christmas there is peace deep in the heart of Christmas I’m with you deep in the heart of Christmas give me your tired, your poor... huddled masses yearning to breathe free the wretched refuse of your teeming shore send these, the homeless tempest-tossed to me I lift my lamp beside the golden door ... deep in the heart of Christmas there is no selling out deep in the heart of Christmas you could be black or blue deep in the heart of Christmas there is peace deep in the heart of Christmas I’m with you (deep in the heart of Christmas)

Loveless Christmas, ain't just the name of the song

about

For something created with such a simple premise, Christmas has grown to become a strange, eerily permeating construction that is altogether overwhelming and peaceful, isolating and comforting. Everybody in this country experiences it, but that experience isn't uniform. In recent years, it has become a delightful obsession of mine to de- and re-construct both the holiday itself and the song cycle that perpetuates it. So, I started my own little tradition a couple years ago, that goes something like this: I call up my comrade Roberto, who will commit to one magical night of musical mischief with me. For the tune, I always have some real Christmastime sentiment prepared. Roberto helps me lay down some basic texture tracks to a beat, and remains patient while I fill in the blanks of the songwriting. Meanwhile, he's building makeshift sound booths, getting the perfect synth setting, or notching the reverb up to immortal levels for the ultimate wood block sound. We work quickly, have a good time, and something unexpected always turns up for a pleasant surprise. When we emerge a few hours later, we have a holiday-themed tune ready to share with folks!
